Driving from Bulgaria’s mainland, visitors are greeted with an impressive fortified wall. Its origins can be traced back some 3000 years ago when the former island was a Thracian settlement. This oldest section of the wall, still visible today, is made of hewn stone and mud. Over the following centuries other settlers, namely the Greeks and Byzantines, strenghened the wall making it even more impregnable. Nesebar, Burgas Province, Bulgaria.
